Using RIMMF. Tutorial #4, Import a Bib record for a Manifestation of an Expression that is already in your EI

In this tutorial, we are going to learn about importing an LC Bibliographic record as an RDA RIMMF Manifestation record, when we already have a RIMMF Expression record for that manifestation.

<hidden Click here for the 'Open RIMMF' instructions and for a link to the pre-built folder for the previous tutorial>
Open RIMMF

At the bottom of the RIMMF screen, look for "\Goudge\
The EI should contain:
  Composite Key Entity
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Goudge, Elizabeth, 1900-1984 Person
Goudge, Elizabeth, 1900-1984. Herb of grace Work
Goudge, Elizabeth, 1900-1984. Eliots of Damerosehay saga Work
Goudge, Elizabeth, 1900-1984. Herb of grace. German Expression

Import a Bib record for a Manifestation

Find and View the Manifestation Record for Importing

Note that this title came up here because the Bib record
contains 'Herb of grace.German' as a Uniform title
This bib record is for a German Manifestation
of the Expression Work that we imported in the previous Tutorial (#3).
An 'R-Tree' displays the RDA Record set for the Manifestation.

Notice that this includes not just the Manifestation,
but also the Expression, the Work, and the Author.

But notice that only the Manifestation checkbox,
to the right of the Heading, is checked
whereas the other checkboxes are not checked,
    because data for those entities
is already present in the Entity Index.

When we import the Manifestation record, therefore,
the Import process will link that record
to the Expression record that is already present in your EI,
and that Expression record is already linked to the Work record
which is already linked to the Author record.
This opens the record for the Manifestation.

You should always check
that everything that could be mapped
  from the MARC Bib record
was mapped to the Manifestation record.

You should also always check that the Manifestation record
  that you are about to link to, is the one that you want;
  let's say that it is.
You should also always check that the Expression record
that you are about to link to,
is the one that you want.
And, if it is, then look to see whether there is anything
in the Bib record that you could add to the Expression record.

For the purpose of this tutorial,
let's say that this is the Expression record that we want.

But there is something we could add to the Expression:
relationship links to the translators, because
"Aus dem Englischen übersetzt von N. O. Scarpi
und Harry Kahn" turns out to mean, basically:
"From the English, translated by N.O. Scarpi and Harry Kahn".

As far as my research shows, this work was only translated
into German once, by these two translators.

So, we should add their relationships to the Expression
to the data for the Expression record that is already
  in our EI.

But first, we have to import the Manifestation record.

Import the Manifestation Record

Add Data to the Expression Record

Now let's add relationship links for the related translators
   to the Expression data
Enter punctuation and spacing exactly as above.
Let's say that a bit more research has convinced us that
  this is our translator.
Notice that a back-link has been added to the Person record
to the Expression record where we began this linking process.
This returns us to the Expression record.
Notice that the label for this blank element is
  the parent label 'Contributor'
With 4 options to choose from, I researched his name in the catalog
  of the Deutschen Nationalbibliothek (DNB): http://www.dnb.de/EN;
  I searched: Kahn, Harry Pilgerherberge
Following the links, I discovered that the DNB Authority record
  for the translator lists his dates as "Lebensdaten: 1883-1970";
since DNB should know about this book in German,
I will link to the name in the NAF with those dates.
Notice that the 'Translator Of' back-link has been added
to the Person record for the Expression record again.

View the R-Tree for your set

Notice that it shows:
  1 Manifestation
  1 Expression
Now you can see 3 additional headings:
  1 Work
  2 Translators
Now you can see 2 additional headings:
the Series related to the Work
  the Author of the Work
