RIMMF a Resource: Step-by-step

Search for Manifestation data, using the Entity Index
If you find a hit (possible match) for the manifestation characteristics of your resource, check that it is a true match
If the Manifestation data that you have found is a true match:
1. Add any additional Manifestation data, if you have any, and if you think it might be useful
2. Link to a new Item record, and add Item data
3. Check the R-Tree to be sure you have picked up all possible relationships
If the Manifestation data that you have found is not a match, but is a near match:
1. Clone the near-match Manifestation record
2. Change/add Manifestation data, as needed
3. If the clone Manifestation data can link to the same Expression data as the near-match record:
  1. Add a link via the 'Expression Manifested' element, to the same Expression record
  2. Go to the linked record for the Expression, via the 'Expression Manifested' element, and, add any additional Expression data, if you have any, and if you think it might be useful
  3. Go to the linked record for the Work, via the 'Work Expressed' element, and add any additional Work data, if you have any, and if you think it might be useful
  4. Go to the linked record for the Manifestation, and Link to a new Item record, and add Item data
  5. Check the R-Tree to be sure you have picked up all possible relationships
4. If the clone Manifestation data cannot link to the same Expression data as the near-match record:
  1. Find the record for the Expression data that was linked to the near-match Manifestation record
  2. Clone the Expression record
  3. In the new Expression record, change/add Expression data, as needed
  4. Add a link to the 'Manifestation of Expression'
  5. Add a link to the same 'Work Expressed' as the clone Expression record
  6. Go to the linked record, via the 'Work Expressed' element, and add any additional Work data, if you have any, and if you think it might be useful
  7. Go to the linked record, and Link to a new Item record, and add Item data
  8. Check the R-Tree to be sure you have picked up all possible relationships
If the Manifestation data that you have found is not a match, or a near match, or if your search did not find a hit at all, then search for Work data, using the Entity Index
If you find a hit (possible match) for the work characteristics of your resource, check that it is a true match
If the Work data that you have found is a true match:
1. Add any additional Work data, if you have any, and if you think it might be useful
2. Search for Expression data, using 'Expression of Work' links in the Work record
3. If a linked Expression record is a true match:
  1. Add any additional Expression data, if you have any, and if you think it might be useful
  2. Link to a new Manifestation record, via the 'Manifestation of Expression' element, and add Manifestation data
    1. Link to a new Item record, and add Item data
    2. Check the R-Tree to be sure you have picked up all possible relationships
4. If no linked Expression record is a true match:
  1. Clone one of the Expression records
  2. In the new Expression record, change/add Expression data, as needed
  3. Link to a new Manifestation record, via the 'Manifestation of Expression' element, and add Manifestation data
    1. Link to a new Item record, and add Item data
    2. Check the R-Tree to be sure you have picked up all possible relationships
If the Work data that you have found is not a true match:
1. Create a new Manifestation record
  1. Add Manifestation data, as needed
  2. Create a new Work record
    1. Add Work data, as needed
    2. Link to new Expression record
      1. Add Expression data as needed
      2. Go back to the Manifestation record
        
        Link to new Item record
        
        Add Item data, as needed
2. Check the R-Tree to be sure you have picked up all possible relationships
