Using RIMMF. Tutorial #8, Import a Bib record for a Manifestation that is already in your EI

In this tutorial, we are going to learn about importing an LC Bibliographic record as an RDA RIMMF Manifestation record, when we already have a record for that Manifestation in our Entity Index.

Open RIMMF

  • Open RIMMF
  • Make sure that you are using the 'Goudge' data folder that you created in Tutorial #1
At the bottom of the RIMMF screen, look for "\Goudge\
  • Open the Entity Index (EI) <Ctrl+E>
The EI now contain:

Import a Bib record for a Manifestation

Find and View the Manifestation Record for Importing

  • <F3>
  • Change the Search Source to '[BIB]Title'
  • Search: Herb of grace
  • Select: Pilgerherberge, Roman. [Aus dem Englischen übersetzt von N. O. Scarpi und IIarry Kahn]
  • Click <Import>
The Manifestation record that you are trying to import
is already in your Entity Index,
so RIMMF opens that record with the message:
"This entity record is already in your EI (more ...)
  • Click '(more …)'
As the message says:
"We found this Manifestation entity record
    in your EI (Entity Index).
If it does not match your Manifestation,
change the Composite Key and/or identifiers
in the existing record and try the import again."
  • Click <OK>
You should go back to the record you were trying to import <F3>
and View the MARC record for it again <Select> and <View MARC>,
to be sure it really is the same
as the record that RIMMF says is a match.

RIMMF matches on the data for the following elements:
  - Identifier for the Manifestation (e.g., LCCN)
  - Composite Key
If the incoming record is not the same as the EI record,
then change something in the incoming or EI record, if you can,
to prevent the incoming record from matching to the EI record.
If the incoming record is indeed the same as the EI record,
then see whether there is anything new
that you could add from the incoming to the EI record.

There is nothing new to add to this EI record.
  • Close the record

End this Tutorial

  • Close everything

If you are finished playing with RIMMF for now, close RIMMF. If you want to proceed, go to Tutorial #9
