Quick steps

Add a Vocab Term From Within a Record

If you need to add a local term to an open vocabulary:

  • Click on the Text box for the element
  • Type the local term that you would like to use
  • Press <TAB> or <Enter>
  • Add a definition, if you can
  • Check that 'Source of term' is 'User'
  • Click the 'Add' button

The next time you use this vocabulary, your local term will be present in the list of choices.

Detailed Steps

Add a Vocab Term From Within a Record

  • Click on the Text box for the element

  • Type the local term that you would like to use

  • Press <TAB> or <Enter>
  • Add a definition, if you can
  • Check that 'Source of term' is 'User'
  • Click the 'Add' button

  • Acknowledge term added

  • Your new term displays in the Text box for the element

  • and, the next time you use this vocabulary, your term will be present in the list of choices.

Use a term without adding it to a vocabulary

If you want to use a term without adding it to a vocabulary:

  • Click on the Text box for the element
  • Type the term that you would like to use
  • Press <TAB> or <Enter>
  • Click the 'Cancel' button
  • Your term displays in the Text box for the element, in red

  • and the the next time you use this vocabulary, your term will not be present in the list of choices.

Note: that if the vocabulary is defined as an 'open' vocabulary, you can add new terms simply by typing them into the appropriate element during editing. Follow this link for more details about Open vocabularies
