Detailed Steps

To use an existing record as the basis for a new record (to save typing similar information all over again) you can copy the existing record as a 'cloned' record (aka a different edition record).

To clone a record:

  • In a record that you wish to clone:
    • Choose File | Clone record
If know that it is safe
to keep all of the relationship data in the cloned record
  for the new record,
then you can select "Keep relationships" in the next step.

If you are not sure that it is safe
to keep all of the relationship data in the cloned record,
  for the new record,
then select "Remove relationships" in the next step.
  • Choose, as appropriate, either:
    • <Remove relationships>
    • <Keep relationships>
  • Select a template from the list that displays, and press OK
  • RIMMF will load the record being cloned into the selected template:
  • Click <Add Record>; or <Discard Record> if you change your mind at this point
  • Make necessary changes to create a new record

Notes

  • In RIMMF, the 'clone' process will:
    • Copy the current record
    • Assign a unique record control number to the new record
    • Delete the following from the new record:
      • Authorized Access Point/Composite key
      • 'Identifier for the …' elements
      • All 'Relationship' elements
      • Source record (if the record was imported)
