Element editor

The element editor is a convenient way to view and manage all of the RIMMF properties associated with an element.

There are three separate 'tabs' of information for each element: Element, RDA, and Trace.

The Element tab displays the primary properties of the element:

  • Element source: this property tells us where the element came from
  • Element Name: This is the RIMMF name for the element, a unique identifier.
  • RIMMF ID: This is the RIMMF Element ID, another unique identifier.
  • FRBR Entity: the entity in which the element is defined.
  • RIMMF Label: How the element appears in RIMMF.
  • SubPropertyOf: the 'parent' of the element in the RIMMF hierarchy.
  • Has SubProps: The 'children' of the element in the RIMMF hierarchy. Press 'List' to populate this menu.

All of the properties on this page are read-only, except for 'source', and 'label'.

Notes

The language field is read-only and FYI only. To change the language used by RIMMF, go to the 'Tools|Setup' menu.

To show only the elements for one entity, select the 'Filter by entity' checkbox then select the entity you want to see from the 'FRBR Entity' drop-down menu. To clear this filter, unselect the checkbox.

The option 'Always show complete names' at the bottom of this form modifies the display of the captions at the top of the element editor.

The RDA tab displays the RDA properties of the element:

This tab contains a number of properties that are derived from the RDA Toolkit.
In addition, this tab contains four fields that you may use to work on mapping MARC to RDA and vice-versa.
All of these properties can be modified by the user.

At the bottom of the tab are the 'URI' links for the element, if available.
You may click the button on the right to navigate to the associated registry page.

The Trace tab displays a visual diagram of where the element fits into the overall picture:

Click on any row in the 'trace' to focus the element editor on that element.

The label in blue, at the top, indicates whether the element is defined as an 'Attribute' or a 'Relationship'. If the element represents a relationship, the type of relationship will also be indicated:

  • Primary WEMI Relationship (eg. 'Work Expressed', 'Expression of Work', etc.)
  • Related WEMI Relationship (eg. 'Related Work', 'Related Expression', etc.)
  • WEMI to PFC Relationship (eg. 'Creator' (Work), 'Contributor' (Expression), etc.)
  • PFC Relationship (eg. 'Related Family' (Person), etc.)
  • COEP Relationship (eg. 'Related Event' (Place), etc.)
