Search for Data Outside RIMMF
Quick Steps
Search
You can search for data outside RIMMF from anywhere in RIMMF (while you are in a record, in a template, or at the main menu):
- Press <F3>
- Type your search term in the Terms box
- Choose your Search Source
- Adjust the Search options if necessary
- Click the <Search> button; or Hit <Enter>
- To view MARC records:
- Select the heading for the record and click the <View Marc> button; or
- Double-click on the heading for the record
Import
If you are importing a record so that you can link to it for a relationship, then invoke this option from where you want to add the link.
- With your cursor in the Text box for the Relationship that you want to link to
- Right-click and choose 'Search for name in NAF'
- If a term is showing in the Search box, close the menu and re-open it, to clear the previous search (that must have been interrupted)
- If a record that you have found matches what you need, you can import that record into RIMMF
- Click on <Import>
- Click on <Add record>
- The link to the imported record will be added for you in the Text box where you began. For example, if you began your <F3> search from the text box of a RIMMF Identifier for a Creator and found and imported a record for a Person, Family, or Corporate Body, then the link to that imported record will be in the text box from which you started.
Note If you cursor was in a field that is not appropriate for the record that you import, no link will be made to the imported record. For example, if you began your <F3> search from the text box of a RIMMF Identifier for a Work and found and imported a record for a Person, Family, or Corporate Body, then a link to that imported record not be made (because it was not appropriate for the box in which your cursor is situated).
Edit
One you have imported and added the converted record to your RIMMF database, you can edit it in RIMMF, as usual.
